FAQ

Here we try to answer some of the frequently asked questions we receive about the community council, processes and also some commonly recurring themes around Lauderdale.

Parking

This is an ongoing query or forever asked question but unfortunately, there is not an immediate answer to this issue. There is a parking area heading out of Lauder on the Galashiels back road ( turn up by the side of the Church and  just before you arrive at the junction at the bottom, there is a parking area on the right, it used to be called the Burnmill) and if everyone parks considerately, there is enough room for at least 20 cars. There is also the plus of a beautiful walk by the burn where some stunning wildlife can be found as well as a nature trail with tree boxes created by local groups of varying ages.

For disabled drivers, there is a disabled car parking area beside the Bus stop in the Avenue, (opposite the Flat Cat Gallery) or if you remember your disabled badge then you will know where you can park already.

Dog Fouling

Like most Towns, Burghs and villages, there seems to be a percentage of individuals who find the prospect of cleaning up after their dogs a problem, which can sadly rub off on those who are more than conscientious. The majority of our Community and all the various Voluntary Groups do a tremendous job, often spending hours every day,  making sure our Burgh is kept clean and environmentally friendly, and as a thank you to them, we would like to ask all residents and holidaymakers alike, to appreciate their hard work by helping them to maintain this by relieving Lauderdale areas of dog excrement. After all, such fouling can also create many a health issue, especially for youngsters, particularly toddlers who easily fall, and of course our elders, some of whom are not as strong on their feet as they used to be.

If you come across a problem on this topic or see someone not being a responsible dog owner please go to this link   and follow the instructions or phone Telephone: 0300 100 1800 Address: Council Headquarters, Newtown St. Boswells, Melrose.

However, perhaps one thing to note, there is a limited time of 7 days from the incident happening, so, as long as there is one eye witness who can identify the name and address of the dog owner a fixed penalty notice of 80.00 can be pushed through by the Scottish Borders Council department mentioned above.

How can I raise an issue with the community council?

There are several ways – you can post on the blog on the website, post a question on our facebook page or contact a member of the community council directly or via admin (at) laudercommunitycouncil.org.uk

Will the community council support/object to my planning application?

We don’t get to see all planning applications. If you would like our response on a particular application or understand in advance of your application how we may respond the best idea is to get in touch.
