Renewable Energy updates – Windmills/Solar Panel/Pylons/Battery storage

This page lists the local renewable energy developments around Lauderdale for information. We have provided the online link for each and information regarding the planning situation. You can look up the project, and also make your own representations to the Energy Consents Unit (ECU) and the relevant energy company during the planning windows and consultations should you wish to.

If you have a problem downloading the following link on a computer, try on a mobile phone or tablet. We have inserted a photo of the ovarlay picture which covers Windmills above 5MW and what state of approval they had at the given time,  according to the SBC Link.

14/05/25 This link: SBC Wind Farm Data  is where you will find our current mapping which, at present, relates to specifically to windfarms, although we are currently actively looking at adding further layers for account for other renewable systems. It does use the same mapping system as the Highland example and is in the process of being updated, which needs to be done manually.

The page can also be accessed directly from the Wind Energy pages of the Council’s website and is fully accessible by the public. The map provides direct links to the individual applications.

As requested, a report on where we are with that and the resources required to update it more frequently – although the Highland one is itself only half-yearly rather than real-time – will be coming before Members before the summer.

However, I thought it might be helpful for you to have a reminder of the current arrangements, which will form the basis of what comes next.

Regards,

 John Hayward

Chief Planning & Housing Officer

LCC have listed: Wind farms; solar parks; battery storage sites; and transmision proposals.  We are hoping to update this specific page monthly.

An email received 11th June 2025

I am getting in touch on behalf of ABO Energy to clarify the status and next steps of our community consultation process for the proposed Woodheads Energy Park.

We previously held two consultation events for the project on 25th March 2025 – one in Blainslie Village Hall and one in the Lauderdale Scouts Hall.

The events were well attended and were opportunities for us to engage with members of the public and encourage feedback on our proposals. At the time, we informed stakeholders that all feedback would be considered ahead of a further round of consultation events.

Our intention was to host the second round of events in June 2025. However, as we continue to carefully review the feedback to date and refine the proposal it is now anticipated that the second round of events will be hosted in Autumn/ Winter 2025. The specific date for the events is yet to be confirmed.

An update shared on the project website stated the consultation has now closed. Please note: This was an administrative error that has now been addressed.

Our consultation process remains open and we will continue to receive public feedback until after the second consultation event, in line with our original commitment. Furthermore, our outreach and engagement activity will continue throughout this period and beyond.

We will share the date of the second round of consultation events when it has been confirmed. In the meantime, we remain keen to engage with Lauderdale Community Council directly.

Hopefully this clarification is helpful for now, but should you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact our team.

Kind regards,

BATTERY STORAGE NEAR LAUDER
Several proposed as part of wind-farms and solar farms (see above) additionally:
Gala North Substation:
Proposal for a 5-6 hectare electricity substation with battery storage on a 24 hectare site.
Approx 5km from Lauder, near Blainslie and Threepwood Moss.
Consultation in progress (April 2025)
TRANSMISSION LINES PROPOSALS: Lauder and surrounding area
Increased electricity production requires increased capacity to transmit the electricity to where
it is being used. Hence the need for bigger transmission lines and bigger pylons as well as
increased storage (batteries).
CROSS-BORDER SUPPLY LINE: proposed by SPEnergy Networks :
The proposal is to connect the Gala North substation with Teviot substation to the South with
increased capacity power lines and larger pylons.
Consultation still in progress until  2nd May and you can feed back online.
