About Us

Under the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973, all Councils are legally obliged to set up Community Councils. These are legally recognised groups of local people with an interest in their community. The main role of Community Councils is to represent their local area, to consult with local residents, and pass their views on to public sector organisations such as Scottish Borders Council, NHS Borders and the Scottish Executive.

Lauderdale Community Council aims:

  • To ascertain, co-ordinate and express to Scottish Borders Council, as the Local Authority for its area, other public authorities and any other body, the views of the community which the Community Council represents in relation to matters for which those authorities are responsible.
  • To make known within the community such information as may be received from Scottish Borders Council and other local authorities.
  • To take such action in the interests of the community as appears to it to be expedient and practicable.
  • To hold monthly meetings, organise various activities for the community over the months of the year, maintain local traditions, respond to community consultation documents

Currently 7 in number and of course our wonderful secretary. Generally we meet at 7:30 pm on the second Monday of the month at Lauder Primary school and at Blainslie Hall during the school holidays. Meetings are open to the public. Agendas and minutes are published on this web site (as long as there are no issues with the Site!), on Facebook, on the boards outside the town hall in Lauder and on the board in Blainslie.

While Covid 19 restrictions were in place these meetings were held on line. However, with the restrictions now lifted the Meetings have resumed at the relevant Venues but, where possible or Wifi permitting, we are continuing to use Zoom.  If you wish to join these meetings feel free to come along or if you are  unable to join us in person do join by Zoom but you will need to notify our Secretary (Anne Hogarth) after which time you will be sent a link with the ID number and password.

On occasions when issues are raised and are unable to be either answered or resolved straight away the Scottish Borders Council is contacted by the relevant Chair/Vice Chair. At times like these, resolving issues in this way can take a bit of time, so we would ask everyone to have patience and to appreciate that all Lauderdale Councillors are Volunteers and most have full-time job and the Councillors at Scottish Borders Council have many things to sort out on a daily basis. In view of the above we hope you will understand that we all try our best to serve the Community in the best way possible and will resolve things in the best way possible.
