LCC has organised/supported various events for the Lauderdale Community in the past and continues to do so when permitted.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Central Weekend 2022

In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old.

At the Silver Jubilee celebrations Lauder had its own Queen for the weekend, this was a young lady from Primary School. However, this time it was decided that we should locate a Queen of the same age as Queen Elizabeth.  Thanks to Nina Armstrong’s brilliant suggestions she asked Evelyn Gray who accepted this very special role

Similar to many other places in the UK Lauder and Blainslie celebrated this special weekend with various events from afternoon Tea’s, street parties to a musical evening with the Jockuleles  and a Concert given by Lauder’s own Praise Band and the exceptionally talented Cellist Claire Davis. There was also a special Platinum Jubilee Joint Service held at Lauder Church where John Shields was very much welcomed back and, as always,  produced a tremendous Service.

Judging of shop windows and of course the exceptional Art work  created by primary school aged individuals took place as well as a tremendous Art exhibition run by Lauder Art Group with all the Primary School paintings on display as well as a corner of information on the Historical Society. Lauder is a truly talented Royal Burgh. It’s just sad that it takes an occasion like this for all the talent to be seen.

To finish off the weekend Thirlestane Castle opened the Avenue gates to encourage the Local Community to join them at their Dachshund Dog and family dog Show and picnic with a small amount of cars from the Borders Vintage Car Club rolling up at the end.

Channelkirk and Lauder Church will be holding a special concert on Friday 12th June 19:30 at Channelkirk Church where there will be music played by tremendous Cellist Claire Davis, The Lauderdale Choir and of course the Praise Band. Tea and Coffee will be served at the end.

  • 2017 – 2019 saw the return of Lauder Fireworks which has been run every year since.   Our purpose in holding the bonfire and fireworks again this year was not only to address some of the requests that came out of our older survey “The big question” but by hosting a community event we hoped to minimise the number of private fireworks parties that seem to have occurred over several evenings in the past.
